The main pillars of the Academy are two research institutes of art profile: the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and the Institute for Cultural Research of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and two locally separated scientific and art structural subdivisions: the Western Regional Scientific and Art Center and the Eastern Regional Scientific and Art Center.
The issues of research activities of scientific institutions, separate subdivisions, enterprises and organizations under the jurisdiction of the Academy shall be heard at the Meetings of the Academy's departments. The head of a research institution shall be appointed by the order of the President of the NAA of Ukraine under a contract for a term ranging from one to five years.
The regional scientific and artistic centre operates on the basis of the Charters (Statutes, or Regulations) approved by the Presidium of the Academy.
Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (MARI of the NAA of Ukraine) is the only research institution in Ukraine that carries out fundamental scientific research in various fields of contemporary art, as well as practical and research studies, aimed at the formation of professional contemporary art and architecture, the implementation of new art technologies and practices, the further formation of national culture, the preparation and publication of monographs, collections of scientific papers on the main directions of scientific activity of the Institute. It provides training of highly qualified scientific personnel at the third scientific and educational level "Doctor of Philosophy" (PhD).
The Institute for Cultural Research of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (ICR of the NAA of Ukraine) is a science and research institution of Ukraine, that carries out fundamental scientific research in the field of cultural studies, as a system of knowledge about the essence of culture, patterns and development of the human environment. The research team of the Institute focuses its studies on the culture as a highly complex system that unites many subsystems, as a global phenomenon that is originally associated with human development.
