Liubov Kyianovska was born in the city of Lviv. She graduated from the Faculty of History and Theory of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Conservatory in 1979 and completed her postgraduate studies at the Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory in 1983.

In 1979-1987, she worked as a lecturer at the Department of Theory, History and Instrument Recital at the Ivan Franko Pedagogical Institute in Drohobych, and later became its Chair. From 1987 to 1991, Kyianovska was an associate professor of the Department of Music History at the Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Conservatory, and in 1991 she became the Chair of the Department.

Kyianovska holds a PhD Candidate in Art History (1985), her thesis was "Functions of Programming in the Perception of a Musical Work", as well as a PhD in Art History (2001), with her thesis "Evolution of Galician Musical Culture in the 19th - 20th Centuries", and a Professor (1994).

In addition, Kyianovska is the author of many scientific articles that have been published in scientific collections and journals in Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Her research interests focus on musical creativity to Taras Shevchenko's poetry in the works of M. Verbytskyi, J. Kyshakevych, S. Liudkevych, M. Kolessa, and M. Skoryk.
