Oleksandr Klekovkin is a theatre expert, theatre figure, and educator. Laureate of the awards: Union of Theatre Workers of Ukraine in the field of theatre criticism and theatre studies (1993, 2002), the Kotlyarevskyi Literary and Art Prize (2001), and the Book of the Year Award (2002).
After graduating from the Kyiv State Institute of Culture and the Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv State Institute of Theatre Arts, he worked as an assistant director at Ukrtelefilm studio, a stage director at the Kyiv Regional Music and Drama Theatre named after P. K. Saksahanskyi, and a lecturer at the Department of Directing at the Kyiv State Institute of Culture. In 1991-1999, he worked as an editor of the Ukrainian Theatre magazine department, and later as a deputy editor-in-chief of the Tax Service Bulletin. In 2005-2010, he held the position of Head of the Scientific and Organisational Department of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, since 2011 - Chief Researcher of the Department of Scientific and Creative Research, Head of the Department of Information and Analysis (2011-2017), Theory and History of Culture (2017-2020), and currently Head of the Department of Aesthetics of the MARI of the NAA of Ukraine. He has repeatedly been the head of fundamental research topics. Since 1986, he has been teaching subjects at the Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
O. Klekovkin is the Chairman of the Specialised Council D 26.460.01 in the discipline 26.00.01 "Theory and History of Culture" (MARI of the NAA of Ukraine), a member of the Academic Council of the MARI, a member of the editorial boards of professional publications of the MARI of the NAA of Ukraine, Ivan Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television, Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. For many years, he was a member of the expert council on cultural studies and art history of the Department of Certification of Scientific and Pedagogical Personnel of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Klekovkin has published over 250 publications, including monographs, textbooks, and lexicons, including "Mystery in the Genesis of Theatre Forms and Stage Genres" (2001), "Sacred Theatre: Genesis. Forms. Poetics" (2002), "Ancient Theatre" (2004), "The Lord's Jesters" (2006), "Theatrica / Ancient Theatre in Europe from the Beginnings to the End of the 18th Century: A Lexicon" (2009), "Theatrica: Lexicon" (2012), "Theatrica / Factory of Spectacles: Vocabulary of the Ukrainian Theatre of 1917-1930s. Contributions to the Dictionary" (2013), "Theatre at the Table" (2013), "Political Theatre" (2014), "Art: Research Methodology" (2017),
"Historiography of the Theatre: Directions. Schools. Methods. Figures" (2017), "Mise en scène: Ideas. Concepts.
