The members of the department are engaged in active social, scientific and creative work, participate in the most reputable scientific, practical, cultural and artistic events held both in Ukraine and abroad, give speeches in the media, create fundamental monographs, textbooks, research and methodological works, where they study the problems of art synthesis. 
The Academic Secretary of the Department is an Academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor A.Bokotey.

The priority of the Department is the study, development and implementation of modern research in the field of artistic culture and the synthesis of plastic arts and design, the protection of artistic heritage, and the determination of a strategy for scientific activity in these essential areas. 
It was of great significance that the Presidium of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine adopted the resolution "On the status of criticism and cultural analysis of the synthesis of arts, architecture, design, decorative and folk art" initiated by the Department. The Department has developed a model draft statute for regional research centres of the NAA of Ukraine, which is crucial in view of the expansion of the NAA of Ukraine's activities to all regions of Ukraine.
The members of the Department made important and well-reasoned recommendations on the development and preservation of folk crafts of Ukraine when the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine considered this issue. The members of the Department are actively involved in the development of state programmes for the development of contemporary art, measures to perpetuate the memory of prominent figures of national culture, members of the NAA of Ukraine, and participate in parliamentary hearings on various issues related to art and cultural studies.
The members of the department constantly demonstrate an active public position and a high professional level with regard to the problems associated with modern urban planning and reconstruction of Ukrainian cities, including the city of Kyiv. The department holds a number of major festivals, exhibitions, plein airs, organises displays of scientific papers and creative projects, conferences, seminars, and round tables on art synthesis, and publishes relevant scientific periodicals, catalogues, and collections. 
The effective work of the members of the Department of Synthesis of Plastic Arts and the Section of Cultural Studies is aimed at concentrating efforts to improve the level of art education, as well as to develop analytical thought and practice of artistic creativity.
