On December 16, the Grand Hall of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine hosted the ceremonial opening of the Visual Theatre “VERTEP.”

The festive event marked the beginning of a presentation of festive artworks created by Ukrainian artists, reflecting the light and beauty of national theatrical tradition and the grandeur of the people’s spiritual wealth.
Visitors to the exhibition have a chance to view architectural installations, paintings, costumes, masks, posters, and sculptures presented within the framework of the artistic project.
At the opening of “VERTEP,” welcoming remarks were delivered by the President of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine Victor Sydorenko; Vice President of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Academician Yurii Vakulenko; Vice President of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the Academy Oles Sanin; and Academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine Nataliia Vladymyrova. They emphasised that holding such events right before Christmas holidays is an important contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture, especially in times of war, and serves to reveal a symbol of unity that brings human hearts closer together in the face of shared challenges, for the sake of preserving traditions, memory, and the achievements of the Homeland.
Among the visitors to the exhibition were also the Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine Oleksii Skrypnyk; Academicians Oleksii Bezghin, Anatolii Melnyk, Andrii Chebykin, and Mykola Yakovliev; Corresponding Members Olha Lahutenko and Andrii Puchkov; Honorary Academicians Yurii Komelkov, Mykhailo Pozhyvanov, and Oleksandr Suslenskyi; as well as numerous guests, staff members of the research institutes of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and employees of the Academy’s Praesidium.
The preparation of the Visual Theatre “VERTEP” involved artists of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine: Academicians Mykola Bilyk, Yurii Vakulenko, Anatolii Kryvolap, Anatolii Melnyk, Andrii Chebykin; Corresponding Members Borys Kuzma and Oles Sanin; and Honorary Academician Mykhailo Pozhyvanov, along with the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre, the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, the I. K. Karpenko-Karyi Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television, the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine, the National Museum “Kyiv Picture Gallery,” the Museum of Theatre, Music and Cinema Arts of Ukraine, the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, the Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design, the V. A. Afanasiev Kharkiv State Academic Puppet Theatre, the Kyiv Academic Theatre for Young Audiences on Lypky, the NGO “Gallery of Scenography,” and the NGO “All-Ukrainian Academy of Arts.”
The exhibition will run until the end of January 2026.
