“In the history of Ukraine, this day is special, because it was on 24 August 1991 that the real Ukrainian statehood, which Ukrainians had been dreaming of for centuries and fighting for with arms in their hands, was established. We continue to fight for it today. On these festive days, we honour the new members of the Academy, who were elected on 4 July at our General Meeting, as well as the scholars and artists who have been awarded by our Academy for their outstanding achievements in the field of culture and art. The awarding of diplomas to Academicians, Corresponding Members, Honorary Academicians, and Foreign Members of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine is an act of official recognition of many years of dedicated scientific and creative work, evidence of the power of Ukraine's intellectual and creative potential, and a tribute to our colleagues from friendly countries who support us in our struggle.
The modern world is complicated and turbulent, and we, as the Academy, consider the most important thing in the struggle for Ukrainian culture and art to be ensuring the diversity, invincibility and freedom of artists and art in Ukraine. This is the key to calmness and determination, sustainability and resilience of the further movement of our art, its confident future.
Perhaps, as Jorge Luis Borges believed, for an artist it is not as important to try to be modern as to be just an artist, to paint like a poet, not like an era. It is essential to fully support those who are engaged in art, to support artistic and scientific schools, to believe in the inspiration of those who create art, who enjoy creativity, which for all of us is the only and eternal guarantee of the meaning of life. Only then will both the era and the poet take their rightful place in history".
