Nazar Bilyk was born on September 20, 1979, in Lviv.
He received his first professional education at the Kyiv Art and Industrial Technical School (now the M. Boychuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design) in the field of Artistic Woodworking. In 2005, he graduated with honors from the Sculpture Department of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture. Later, he completed an assistantship at NAFAA, where he taught for ten years.
Bilyk focuses his work on sculpture, objects, and installations. His artistic research explores the relationship between humans and their environment — material, historical, and emotional. He combines the academic tradition with contemporary conceptual approaches, working with a wide range of materials, including bronze, glass, polymers, steel, and fiberglass.
Some of his most notable works include the sculpture Rain, the object Paws, and projects such as Counterforms, Imaginary Distances, Vessels, Alloy, and the conceptual project Constructor of Memory. His solo exhibitions include Counterforms (2012, Kyiv, Bohgetta Gallery) and Alloy (2021, Kyiv, Ukrainian House). Between 2013 and 2014, he participated in archaeological excavations at the ancient city of Olbia, which inspired the series Vessels.
Bilyk’s works have been exhibited in over ten countries, including Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, the USA, France, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
In 2020, he participated in the international program Sculpture Park 2030. Among his professional achievements are the First Prize at the All-Ukrainian Competition of Young Artists MUHI (2010) and a grant from the President of Ukraine to support young artists (2013).
