Serhiy Bukovskyi lectured at the Faculty of Cinematography of the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television named after I. K. Karpenko-Karyi from 1998 to 2003. In 2014, he founded the MaisterniDOC (WorkshopsDOC) at the Ukrainian State Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting to support young people interested in documentary filmmaking.
Over nearly forty years in the film industry, Serhiy Bukovskyi has directed about forty documentary films and television projects and served as a producer for numerous initiatives.
Among the directorial works of Serhiy Bukovskyi are: "March Throw" (1983), "Tomorrow Is a Holiday" (1987), "Dream" (1989), "The Roof" (1990), "Dash Sign" (1992), "Landscape. Portrait. Still Life" (1993), "To Berlin!" (1995), "Ten Years of Alienation" (1996), "The Bridge" (1999), "Vilen Kaluta. Real Light" (2000), and "Terra Vermelha. Red Land" (2001).  
His television documentary series "War. The Ukrainian Account" (2003–2004) was recognized with the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2004) and the National Television Award "Teletriumph" (2004). Other notable works include "Say Your Name" (2006), the feature television film "Everyone Must Die" (2007), and documentaries such as "Alive" (2008), "Ukraine. The Starting Point" (2011), and "The Leading Role" (2016). All of Bukovskyi's films have been honoured with awards at prestigious film festivals and have received national accolades.  
In 2020, Serhiy Bukovskyi completed a film about the renowned contemporary Ukrainian composer Valentyn Sylvestrov, titled "V. Sylvestrov."
Awards: Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2004), honorary title "Merited Artist of Ukraine" (1996), honorary title "People’s Artist of Ukraine" (2008), "Golden Dzyga" (2017) – Ukrainian National Film Award established by the Ukrainian Film Academy in 2017, Order of Merit, Third Class (2021).
