Mykola Diomin's scientific achievements include more than 300 publications and developments on the theory and history of architecture and urban planning. He is the author of more than 50 major architectural and urban planning projects, including master plans for the city of Kyiv (1986, 2002), schemes and projects for regional planning, detailed planning projects for residential areas, public and residential buildings. The main focus of his research is urbanism and spatial planning, management of urban planning systems, as well as the reconstruction of urban areas and restoration of architectural monuments. He is the President of the Union of Urbanists of Ukraine and the head of the personal architectural studio "M. Diomin".
For many years, the scientist has also been engaged in pedagogical work. As the Head of the Department of Urban Construction at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, he constantly introduces the latest technologies and theoretical and creative developments into the educational process. He created his own scientific school, having trained 40 PhD Candidates and 16 PhDs. He contributes to many interdisciplinary international scientific conferences, seminars and symposia.
He is a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, a professor at the International Academy of Architecture (Sofia) and a full member of its Moscow branch, a full member of ICOMOS. He is also a member of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine and an honorary member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
Main scientific works: "Urban Planning in the Ukrainian SSR in the Seven-Year Plan (1959-1965)" (1961), "Guidelines for the Design of a Network of Institutions for Cultural and Household Services of Populated Areas" (1966), "Suburban Zones of Major Cities (Design Manual)" (1970), "Methodological Guidelines for the Planning and Development of Small Cities" (1970), "Planning of Urban Agglomerations. Methodological Guidelines" (co-authored, 1972), "Methodological Foundations of District Planning" (1975), "Socio-Economic Development of a Large City as an Object of Simulation Modelling" (1982), "Management of Development of Urban Planning Systems" (1991), "Urban Planning Information Systems", "State Building Regulations", etc.

Head of the Department of Urban Construction at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture.

He was awarded the Order of Merit of the III degree (2002), the Kyiv Mayor's Badge of Honour (2001), and the Gold Medal of the NAA of Ukraine (2006).
