The artistic legacy of Zhanna Kolodub spans a wide range of musical genres. Her work includes compositions for musical theatre — ballets, musicals, and scores for dramatic productions — as well as symphonic, chamber-instrumental, choral, and vocal music.

A particularly distinguished aspect of Zhanna Kolodub’s oeuvre is her instrumental concertos with orchestra and music for brass instruments, encompassing concertos, solo pieces, and a vast array of ensembles of various formations. Equally significant is her contribution to music for children and young audiences, featuring ballets, musical performances, songs, and instrumental works. She has also created an extensive concert and educational repertoire for performers of different instruments, orchestras, and competitive performances.

Zhanna Kolodub’s compositional style is distinguished by philosophical depth, a modern expressive manner, remarkable musical eloquence, and an original stylistic approach rooted in national traditions while incorporating contemporary compositional techniques. Her music is well known both in Ukraine and beyond, with her works published in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and Germany. Many of her compositions have been released on CDs, and leading performers in Ukraine and abroad include her works in their repertoires. Musicologists dedicate diploma theses, academic papers, and dissertations to the study of her art.

Pedagogy plays a significant role in Kolodub’s life, where she has demonstrated a deep understanding of the educational process. She shares her expertise through scholarly works on performance, pedagogy, and aesthetic education. For over 50 years, she has been a professor at the Petro Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, nurturing more than 300 students — many of whom have become distinguished artists, laureates of Ukrainian and international competitions, and honoured figures in the arts. Alongside her compositional and teaching career, she is also actively engaged in cultural and educational initiatives. Since 1968, she has served as the Deputy Chair, and now Chair, of the Commission for Musical and Aesthetic Education of Children and Youth at the National Union of Composers of Ukraine (NUCU). She is also a member of the NUCU admissions committee, frequently chairs juries for national and regional music competitions, and serves on the supervisory board of the "Cultural Fund of Ukraine."

In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the Gold Medal of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine in 2010.
