Pavlo Makov is a graphic artist and a prominent representative of the “New Wave.” His work is marked by a strong commitment to addressing pressing themes of the present and a sincere concern for the urgent issues of our time. He is one of the few distinguished contemporary artists in the world who continues to work in the traditional technique of etching.

Masterfully and freely commanding the full expressive range of graphic art, Makov unites deep artistic tradition with a modern understanding of time and space – central themes and inquiries in his oeuvre. The “magic of Makov’s graphics” captivates the viewer, drawing them into a mysterious world of minute images: plants, animals, buildings, maps, diagrams, shadows, signs – fragments that come together to form the vast, intricate universe of his works, whether individual sheets or entire artist books.

Since the early 1990s, Makov has worked in a distinctive medium known as the "art book" or "artist’s book." His art books are often imaginative “documentary mystifications,” composed of photographs, collages made from old letters, wallpaper fragments, diagrams, drawings, inscriptions, numbers, and more – woven into narratives of his own invention.

He is a laureate of numerous international and national graphic art competitions, and in 2008 was awarded the Silver Medal of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
