Anatoliy Melnyk dedicated many years of his creative life to the development of the culture of the Khmelnytskyi region. His efforts and talent led to the creation of the Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts in Khmelnytskyi. Among the achievements of this period are the founding of the All-Ukrainian Art Association "Artania", the publication of albums and catalogues, major art events, creative and financial support for artists. A. Melnyk is the founder of the Museum Lane (Muzeynyi Provulok) magazine.
As an artist, he devotes considerable effort to portraiture. During his twelve years as Director General of the National Art Museum of Ukraine (NAMU), he invested enormous efforts in its reconstruction. The museum team, its benefactors, and the National Art Museum of Ukraine Development Support Fund (established on Melnyk's initiative) published a number of major works on fine art.

He was awarded the Order of Merit, 3rd Class (2003), and the Gold Medal of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (2023).
