Oleksiy Mishchenko works in the fields of graphics and painting. His artistic individuality is defined by a focused approach to depicting significant themes of history and modernity. His prolific work in book design reflects a deep cultural refinement, with his designed editions receiving top awards at both national and international exhibitions. Mishchenko’s watercolour series dedicated to the landscapes of his homeland exude a lyrical quality. He is a regular participant in prestigious exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, seamlessly combining his creative pursuits with public activities. His works are housed in numerous museums across Ukraine as well as in international collections.
Mishchenko's major works span easel graphics, painting, and book illustration. His watercolour pieces include "Friends" (1977), "Beyond the Village" (1978), "Autumn on Volodymyrska Hill" (1978), and "Evening. Autumn Hay" (1979), along with series such as "In the Land of My Childhood" (1970–1980), "Through Chernihiv Region" (1980–1983), and "Poplar Land" (1983–1985). Notable watercolours also include "Spring in Podil" (1982), "Kyiv Funicular" (1982), "In Memory of Kyiv's Founders" (1982), and the series "On the Land of Poltava" (1985–1986). His paintings include "No Return to the Depths of Centuries" (1992), "News" (1993), "Nightingale Romance" (1993), "Mirages of Summer" (1993), "Loneliness" (1993), "The Inevitability of Living Together" (1993), "Steppe Madonna" (1993), "The Day Will Come" (1994), "Through the Ages" (1994), "In Memory of Summer" (1994), "Mother’s Hands" (1996), and "Sunlit Flowers" (1997). His book illustrations include works such as "The Forest Canopy" by M. Pryshvin (1979), "Wintering in Studena" by D. Mamyn-Sybiryak (1982), "The Mower" by O. Koltsov (1984), "Spring Waters" by F. Tyutchev (1986), "Bird Cherry" by S. Yesenin (1986), and "Enchanted Desna" by O. Dovzhenko (1999), as well as the collection "To the Quiet Waters, to the Bright Stars" (2003). His painting series include "Seasons" (2004–2006), "Shyshaky Motifs" (2007–2011), "Summer is Blooming" (2011–2012), and "After Young Summer, Autumn Follows" (2012–2013).
1940 - born on 15 March in Mokrets village, Brovary district, Kyiv region.1968 - graduated from the Kyiv State Art Institute with a degree in Architecture.1969-1975 - architect of Podil district of Kyiv.1975-1983 - publishing house of children's literature ‘Veselka’ (designer, head of the artistic design department).1987-1992 - executive secretary of the Kyiv organisation of the Union of Artists of Ukraine.1996-2001 - Deputy Head of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.1997-2017 - academic secretary of the Department of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
He was awarded: The Order of Merit, III degree (2009), Bronze Medal ‘For Achievements in the National Economy of the USSR’ (1978), Diploma named after H. Yakutovych at the contest ‘Art of the Book of Ukraine’ (2003), Silver Medal of the AUA (2003), Gold Medal of the AUA (2010).
