Maksym Tymoshenko is the President of the national environmental organisation “Green Cross” Ukraine, a member of the Board of Directors of the International Green Cross – an environmental organisation under the United Nations – and the President of the international foundation “Days of Ukraine.” He has been honoured with the title of “Ambassador of Peace.” Since November 2018, he has served as Rector of the P. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
M. Tymoshenko embodies the continuity of Ukraine’s artistic traditions. He was raised and shaped within the family of the renowned choral conductor, public figure, Rector of the Kyiv Conservatory, and founder of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Oleh Tymoshenko. While serving as a professor at the National Academy of Cultural and Arts Management, he defended his dissertation and earned a Ph.D. His research spans a wide academic scope, focusing on interdisciplinary analysis and strategic development in Ukraine’s cultural and artistic sector. M. Tymoshenko imparts his scholarly expertise to graduate students of the P. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in the field of contemporary art studies and cultural theory.
With prior experience working within the Ukrainian Parliament, he has presented the strategic goals and priorities of contemporary Ukrainian culture. Upon assuming the rectorship of the P. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, M. Tymoshenko clearly outlined the institution’s development priorities. Under his leadership, the Academy’s development strategy has undergone a fundamental transformation, reconstruction of its facilities has commenced, and substantial investments from international companies have been secured to support and modernise the Academy, its instruments, and library holdings. Strong partnerships have been established with leading European creative and educational institutions, particularly with the European Union's Erasmus+ program. He has also brought global attention to the Academy, welcoming distinguished individuals such as Plácido Domingo, Riccardo Muti, and Jack Ma, to whom he presented honorary professor diplomas of the P. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine during official ceremonies.
M. Tymoshenko plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing modern international art education. At his initiative, a new higher education institution affiliated with the National Music Academy was founded in Hengshui, Hebei Province, China – the P. Tchaikovsky International Academy of Music and Arts – where he serves as honorary president. He is also an honorary professor of Hengshui University and the T. Sattorov Tajik National Conservatory. M. Tymoshenko is a member of the Attestation Collegium of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, where he represents the field of art education as its sole delegate. As an initiator and co-organiser of numerous artistic projects and creative initiatives, and as co-chair of the organising committees of the All-Ukrainian Open Music Olympiad “Voice of the Country” and the All-Ukrainian S. Prokofiev Piano Competition, he actively contributes to the development of Ukraine’s contemporary artistic space.
As a scholar, M. Tymoshenko is the author of more than twenty publications in academic collections and leading periodicals in the field of cultural studies, approved by the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine, including Culture and Modernity, Topical Issues of Theory, History, and Practice of Artistic Culture, and the Bulletin of the State Academy of Managerial Personnel of Culture and Arts (now the Bulletin of the National Academy of Managerial Personnel of Culture and Arts). He also regularly takes part in numerous academic conferences.
M. Tymoshenko is a co-author of the academic five-volume Ukrainian Ethnoculturological Encyclopedia (2013) and the five-volume Ukrainian Encyclopaedia of Ethnoart Studies and Ethnoculturology (2014). Both encyclopaedias were published under the auspices of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and the National Academy of Managerial Personnel of Culture and Arts. To date, these are the only academic encyclopaedic publications in cultural studies in Ukraine. He is also the author of the textbook International Humanitarian Strategies: Theory and Practice, which has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as a university-level textbook.
He is an academician of the All-Ukrainian public organisations “Ukrainian Academy of Sciences” and the “Ukrainian Technological Academy.”
