Oleksandr Zlotnyk was born on November 15, 1948. He graduated from the P. I. Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory in 1971 and the A. V. Nezhdanova Odesa National Academy of Music in 1983.
Oleksandr Yosypovych is a widely known composer in the field of contemporary song. He continues and renews the line of lyrical song, which has long been the most interesting tradition of this genre in Ukraine. His music not only carries forward the legacy of his predecessors but also renews it, offering a fresh perspective on Ukrainian melodic heritage. In addition to his popular song repertoire, Zlotnyk is active in the realm of academic music, composing in a variety of genres. His works include numerous symphonic, chamber, and choral pieces, as well as the opera-duma The Blind. He has written music for films, collaborating with renowned directors, and is the author of 18 musicals. Alongside his creative work, Zlotnyk is an accomplished educator, continually refining his teaching methods. His classes are noted for their intellectual depth, professional rigor, integration of modern pedagogical approaches, and a genuine goodwill toward students.
He has repeatedly chaired the juries of international and national music competitions and is the founder of the International David Oistrakh Violin Competition (Odesa) and the International Children’s Creativity Festival Slavyanskyy Bazarchyk (Odesa). Drawing on centuries-old Ukrainian cultural traditions within the context of global artistic experience and a modern worldview, he has composed over 2,000 musical works, acclaimed both in Ukraine and abroad. Zlotnyk holds numerous honorary titles, Grand Prix awards, prizes, and distinctions.
Oleksandr is a member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine, President of the International Corporation Slavyanskyy Bazar, General Producer of the Grand Prix company, Chairman of the Board of the Rodyna Public Foundation, and President of the A.I.S. company. He has produced artists including Dmytro Yaremchuk, Nazariy Yaremchuk Jr., and Pylyp Zhmakher. The composer is a laureate of numerous international and Ukrainian competitions and festivals, such as Song Vernissage, recipient of the International Sidi Tal Prize, and Knight of the International Order of St. Nicholas of Mira. He serves on various councils and commissions and is Chairman of the Ukrainian Agency of Copyright and Related Rights.
Oleksandr Zlotnyk is a distinguished musician, artist, and educator who has made a significant contribution to the development of Ukraine’s musical culture. Today, he is one of the leaders of national musical culture and an active public figure who embodies the authority of a professional and scholar. The artist's original work has enriched contemporary musical art, which has been repeatedly noted by the media in Ukraine and abroad.
He has been honored with the highest distinction of the International Academician M. A. Kasyanov Prize Foundation — the Order of St. Nicholas of Mira (1997), the Grand Gold Medal of WIPO (2003, Geneva, Switzerland), the Honorary Award of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine, the Order For Long and Fruitful Work in the Field of Culture, and the Person of the Year award (2018).
